I'm not a big fan of holiday music (except for the Transiberian Orchestra). I avoid malls and stores following Thanksgiving and feel pity for those who work there and can't escape the constant repetition. No, my displeasure has nothing to do with the religious connotations. I feel the same way about the nonreligious music connected with Christmas. It's simply too saccharin and the constant repetition begins to feel like waterboarding. Interestingly, it reminds me of traditional Hawaiian music. One FM station in Honolulu used to play music in sets in three and every third song was Hawaiian. One day a DJ announced that if anyone were as tired of the format as he, honk your horn. Horns began blaring all over the city. (BTW, there is a new generation of Hawaiian composers writing fresh music that capture the milieu of the islands and are much more listenable. I wonder how many horns I'd hear if some DJ here raised the same question about Christmas music
