This has been a long time coming. Woolworth's is a name some of you will know- they died out when I was in grade school in the 70's. You would see a store here and there, but Sears was always the next big store. Resistant to change and the world in constant change- your business model must move with the times. This one saw a lot of cash bleed out in the past few years and will continue this bleeding until they close the doors. Wal-Mart ousts another...

When I was young it was known as Sears and Roebuck Maj Marty Hogan. In those days many businesses were composed of two names in the title. Growing up in and outside of Philadelphia, PA we had
1. Horn & Hardart which operated the first food service automats in Philadelphia and New York City.
2. Strawbridge & Clothier is now Strawbridge and
3. Sears and Roebuck is now Sears owned by Kmart
We noticed Sears going downhill first in the area of appliance service and maintenance. That occurred around the time Kmart acquired control. I fault Kmart management more than the competition of Walmart.
FYI in the Washington, DC area Sears is still plugging on.
