Remember watching all 3 races on TV, he was one great horse for sure.

My father was at the Kentucky Derby that year. That Belmont race still stands out to me!

His move on the first turn, when he went from last to first, was a sight to behold.
Imagine, nearly 50 years later, he still holds the record times for ALL THREE Triple Crown races. In the Derby, he ran every quarter mile faster than the previous (greatest example of sustained acceleration over the entire race). His Belmont time is still unapproached to this day, and is the standard for an exhibition of endurance. If all Belmont starters ever were put into the race at the same time, Secretariat would win by 10 lengths. He was that good on that day.

I grew up five blocks from Churchill Downs, I spent 20 years on the Louisville division police and have been up close and personal to the Kentucky Derby more than a few times, I have owned horses all of my adult life. I have never enjoyed watching a horse run as I did watching secretariatI and I do not believe that horse will ever be surprised in his performances. He truly was one of a kind
