Senators Call on Mattis to Buy More Littoral Combat Ships

The LCS is a disaster, but there is now BIPARTISAN congressional support to buy more of them! Awesome (sarcasm added)! The statement that kills me is that procuring more will provide shipyard stability for the foreseeable future... Well, Congressman, I am glad that the people in your district will continue to have stability in the yards. Meanwhile, sailors will go out on ships that have numerous, catastrophic propulsion issues (hint, if you go into combat with say, North Korea, you kinda need engines or you die), and are not even capable of doing the minimal missions assigned to them. I have had sailors of mine almost die from Congressional "pet projects". Sorry for the rant...

I was on one of the engineering planning meetings for these many years ago. The contractors told us that the mission modules were "Plug and Play" and would be easy to swap out. The idea was that the ship would pull into a port where they had the module they needed, cut out the one not needed, weld in the new one and hook into the needed ship systems. I asked the simple question: when has shipyard work ever been completed on time and on budget? And you expect to do that in a "wartime" scenario?
