The major issue is nuclear waste. What are we and other nations going to do with it? Spend more time on research and development on fusion reactors and stop playing with wind that has been worked for nearly a century.

Thanks. There are plans to deal with nuclear waste, though it is a valid concern. Wind has not proven out to be scalable, reliable (sometimes wind doesn't blow) or very cost-effective over wind turbine life-cycle, so it also has its concerns.

Col Joseph Lenertz - What are those plans, I really am interested because I also believe nuclear should be a major part of our energy arsenal.

Please explain. Hydrogen (ionized or not) has a single proton as its nucleus. What nucleus is fissing (breaking apart, decreasing total mass, and producing abundant energy)? Do you mean fusion? It is possible to fuse 4 hydrogen atoms and create Helium, but the reaction is neither stable nor produces much net energy at this point.
