"... anyone who comes to America to seek asylum has the right to a hearing." Courtesy? Sure. Do our best to accommodate them? Absolutely. Have the 'right'? I find it amazing how many people think that simply by crossing the border illegally into the U.S. a foreigner automatically 'wins' and must be given all the rights as someone who followed our laws. Seeking asylum? They crossed three countries to get here (per the video). Asylum wasn't their goal. Living in the U.S. was their goal.

My guess would be just the opposite since they are fleeing their home countries because of the living conditions and/or safety factor.

Col David Turk, please, STOP guessing. I respect your opinions and comments but why make it seem like that is the main reason their coming here? My guess (pun intended) is that it truly is for economic reasons. Otherwise why are all the pro immigrant people stating we need them for the jobs Americans won't do? (which is hogwash) 30 years ago and prior to 30 years ago we Americans picked all the fruit and vegetables. Who cleaned my house 30 years ago? Who washed my car 30 years ago? I'm sure you know the answers.....

We need to get this all under control as a government and society. Personally, I think anyone wanting to come here for a better life should be allowed to if they have an American sponsor. A US citizen who will keep an eye on who they sponsored, make sure that they don't need welfare support, etc.... Make the American citizen have some responsibility. According to all the liberals /left there should be plenty of people who will sponsor them. Lets see if they will put their money where their mouth is........

SPC Randy Torgerson - hey Randy, slow down. I suggest you reread my reply. Your response is based on an assumption not presented.

Don’t know where you got your information, but the news articles I’ve read stress the safety issue; e.g., that they can’t go back because they will be harmed. That’s how it was with my grandparents and great grandparents. They could work, but not live safely and this was Europe. It’s one of the reasons.

As to using the word “guess”, it’s a figure of speech, apparently not understood by all. I will replace it with, “my informed opinion is”.

So, I too respect your opinion.

COL David Turk - They all say they will be harmed..... But the truth is they just want to come here, Period. You should talk with someone who works at the border... If they wanted asylum they would stop at the first country they entered, not the USA. Thus Mexican undocumented immigrants have a reasonable government so tough to get asylum here for Mexicans. Don't believe everything you read...... Asylum is for people from Tyrannical governments, not just a bad home life.

Regarding my assumption not presented, I did assume you read stories from liberal sources. I've worked at the border, its not what you assume is the problem. Think about what your saying...... You think 15 million people will be punished by the Mexican government if they go home? Some of the other countries where asylum seekers come from do have tyrannical governments, but again, they should seek asylum in the first country they come too.... That is actually the rule.

SPC Randy Torgerson - well, you assumed incorrectly. During my many years with USACE, I have personal knowledge of the border and many agents. As you know, USACE (particularly the Los Angeles District) is the one responsible for not only building the wall, but the support facilities (buildings, access roads, Boeing observation, etc.). At one point, I was meeting with the local CBP Director weekly. All this has nothing to do with my original comment, which gave no opinion on those individuals right to enter the US. “Some people see want they want to see.”

Col Turk, fleeing violence or lack of safe/good living conditions are not valid claims for asylum under federal law.

SFC Michael Watkins- never said it was. My comment was in response to receiving adequate medical care in their home countries. Nowhere in that comment does it state my opinions on their entrance into the US.
