More than one head should be on the block for this. Camera guy is at least complicit, and folks in the aircrew should have caught on as well.
Very embarrassing to the command, and they are in danger of relief as well depending on what the investigation says.

So I don't get it. Camera guy was a SFC and got a letter of reprimand, which would be a career ender in the Cold War. Not sure how it is handled now. Even so, no rank taken? Whats up with that? Seems a little soft.

SPC Erich Guenther - Were I to venture a guess, camera guy might have said that he was just filming the airdrop - plenty of people do that every time - and just happened to catch this deed on tape. Then he gets in trouble for the commentary.
Not sure I'd buy that story as a commander, but it does instill reasonable doubt.

Doesn't take a genius to figure out that the camera came out before the vehicle dropped - why would it do that if they're not expecting something? Also doesn't take a genius to run back the paper trail and narrow down the suspects with access to the chutes.

It's normal though for folks to take pictures of air drops so taking a picture does not mean he knew it would happen in advance. Still a SFC laughing at something like that on a viral video and no rank taken? WTH? He got a letter of reprimand which in the Cold War means bar to renlistment as well...........not sure if they do that these days.
