I've sat through the Army's sexual harassment training...it's a waste of time, IMO

In response to your opinion - no. That is completely misogynistic and toxic masculinity talking. Just because someone is heterosexual does not mean they are attracted to everyone of the opposite gender. I am a heterosexual woman - I am definitely not attracted to every single man I encounter. At all. Let's be realistic - we all have differences in what we are attracted to. Just like every heterosexual man isn't attracted to every woman he meets.

I was in a combat EN BN for my first 4 1/2 years and deployed twice. I was the only female enlisted in my section (between S2/S3) for both deployments. I've had to share tents with males - and nothing happened because decent men don't assault other people. Also realize that making things separate by gender will NOT stop SA in the combat arms MOSs. Men SA other men. All the time. Men are just less likely to report being SA'ed.

Have you asked every single woman in the military what choice they want? Because I definitely don't want to be separated by gender in a unit. I definitely don't want female only units. And I have yet to meet a woman in 18 years of active duty service who wants women only units.

Sexual assault and sexual harassment happen because sexual predators get into our ranks - because they go undetected for so many years. The majority of sexual abuse crimes in the Army, for example, are actually against children. It's usually sexual assault of children or child rape photos.

The reason why these people get into our ranks is they never have a record of it -they get away with it so long until they are finally caught. And some people never get caught. Then add in the fact when it's a senior ranking person who gets caught, they get a slap on the wrist. Add in as well the victim blaming culture we have in not just the military but society as well.

Separating men and women isn't going to stop SA or SH. It's just not. That's not the issue. You're putting all the blame on victims and none of it on perpetrators. That's the problem with the military - it doesn't focus on how to stop the predators. No amount of PowerPoint slides is going to matter to a predator. They're just going to learn how to not be so obvious about it.

Just a little pessimistic? I served 22 years, almost all in integrated combat support and combat service support units (Medical and Military Police), but I also served in infantry units. Everyone is different, but nature takes its course. Other countries historically have had many effective all female fighting forces and I think it should be an option for US female soldiers. I am not an absolutist. I appreciate your comment. Thank you.

MAJ Montgomery Granger - Pessimistic? No. Realist? Yes.

Nature doesn't "take its course." Jfc. Not all heterosexual men are attracted to all women. Period. That's facts. Are you attracted to every single woman you've ever met in your life? Did you have this insatiable urge to have sex with EVERY woman you have met in your life? I doubt it. Just like I'm not attracted to every single man I encounter. Far from it. In fact, guys in the military are a huge turn off for me after 18 years of working with them.

My first 4 1/2 years was in a combat EN BN where I deployed twice. And I worked with mainly men. The first deployment we only had 15 women in the entire BN - then with the NG unit attached it went up to 20. The only other woman in my section was my OIC. The second deployment there was another enlisted woman in my section and we are friends, but she went home early.

Have I been sexually assaulted in my time? Yes - but it was by one idiot in my unit who had pretended to be my friend to try to get close to me. Then the other time was at WLC...in formation...in uniform. But, the majority of men are not sexual predators who feel this urge to assault others. That's facts. Also facts is that men and women are sexually assaulted in the military.

I've also been a victim advocate starting at the company level (when they had them at the start), then I was the BN alternate VA, then I got pushed up to primary when the male primary got accused of SH. Then I was the BDE SARC. So I've dealt with all types of cases. So I have experience as a victim/survivor and as a SARC/VA.

No it shouldn't ever be an option for US women servicemembers ever again. We already did that. We don't need to go back to it. It's not going to stop sexual assaults anyway. I don't know why you think it wasn't happen when it was all male units.

How about instead of trying to punish victims we try to stop the predators? I know crazy idea right?
