Shooting at Distance: A Growing Consideration for Concealed Carriers

In light of the recent Florida shootings, there is much talk about arming teaches and having them to carry concealed. I am all for us following the Israeli model where they arm and certify their armed teachers on a periodic bases and have them train regularly. SO what does this have to shooting at distance? If you have a teacher who can hit a "man sized" target at 50 yards, chances are a someone who can engaged targets effectively at shorter distances.

Our basic police department qualification started at the 3-yard line (12 rounds), then the 7-yard line (12 rds), then the 15 (12 rds), and finally the 25-yard line (14 rds). Passing was 80%, meaning that the officer would have to hit at least 4 times from the 25 in order to qualify (more if they missed closer in).
Every year we did training at 50-yards with the pistol, but encouraged the officers to use a long gun (shotgun, rifle) at that range. But the point was not to encourage them to shoot at that range, but to familiarize them with their own ability at that range. The second point was at that range, they need to be in a more stable position that standing, they should go to kneeling or prone.
