This is an old podcast from Ask Pastor John, and while I don't always agree with John Piper, I think he is spot-on in this episode. Patriotism DOES have a proper place in our lives as Christians, as does love for our Veteran family, but, as Christians, we are pilgrims and sojourners in the land, looking for to our final home with Christ.

Depends. We should all be devoted to and vigorous in our support of our nation IF it is worthy. Personally, I could not be patriotic except as a citizen of America. It is the only nation on Earth where individual rights are nature (or God-given, if you prefer). Yes, really, the only place. Even those where people are seemingly "free" is in where those rights are granted by their rulers. Even in England and Canada, selected rights have been suspended on occasion when deemed appropriate by their rulers. Sadly, in America, a significant portion of my fellow citizens are all too willing to surrender those rights in exchange for freedom of responsibility for themselves and their words and actions and choices...

Christianity is not exclusive of service to country. Well rounded is what Jesus himself preached.

SGT Steve McFarland Listened to it all, and I agree. God first, family second, and our country third. We should always be patriotic, but not to the point that it interferes with our love for others.
