Should the U.S. be better prepared to reinstate military conscription? - via @FederalNewsNet MY SAY: Automatic Selective Service registration for every 18 year old American would be prudent, but conscription is always more a sign of desperation than anything else. Most military jobs are non-combat, but todays asymmetrical battlefield means there is usually no traditional "front" and "rear" to a war, so every military person must be trained first to fight. That said, women should never be drafted into combat arms, but that option should exist on a volunteer basis. for over 50 years, women have performed at the highest levels, including in combat, with combat support and combat service support units, such as Military Police, medical and transportation to name a few. Women can fight, but the logistics and practicality of integrating women into traditional combat arms units, such as special forces, infantry and armor, need more time to adjust or discontinue and then perhaps consider what other countries do, which is develop effective all female combat arms units.
