This adaptation tells the story of Chanukah. Chanukah is actually a minor holiday, one not recognized among many ultra orthodox Jews, but elevated in popularity to give children an alternative to Christmas. At all Jewish festivals, food plays an important role, commemorating events, and eaten as stories are told to emphasize each point. Fried foods - latkes (potato pancakes), donuts, and other treats - commemorate the "miracle of the sacred oil" used to fuel the sacred lamp in the temple.
