No cures for cancer here. There are still a number of my peers who don't measure up in a few of these areas and the process to weed them out? You guessed it, like the cure for cancer....elusive. Seriously, there is nothing more fulfilling than the Battalion level CSM who interacts with lower enlisted and young officers on a daily and personal level. That's where the SMA misses the mark about the "28 years of service " that is immeasurable....the USASMA doesn't teach life lessons, been-there-done-that, or previous tried & tested techniques to problem solving.....but in fairness SMA Dailey brings it back with approachability and the "desire" subordinates have that WANT your advice....nothing feels better (professionally fulfilling) than being a relevant BN level CSM that is needed, wanted & appreciated (but put in the work CSMs! Follow SMA's 10 points and add your own too...don't be sheep that follow one guy's opinion). Unfortunately, Brigade and above positions loose that interpersonal connection and get focused on numbers, stats, slides, etc.... find me, (I dare you).... that one 2LT that will approach a Division, Brigade, Corps or higher CSM and asks for advice on leadership, mentoring, counseling or even paperwork....not happening in our ranks....so CSMs...enjoy that Battalion position and be approachable and always teaching!
