The Army had a great Equal Opportunity program when I was in. Admittedly, I got out in '97. I was twice selected to be a unit Equal Opportunity NCO, once at company level, and once at battalion level. The training courses were gritty and intensive, one week long at company level, two weeks at battalion. Usually the EO NCO was a minority member, but in both cases there were lots of persons of color in the upper echelons in that particular unit at that particular time, and they wanted a white EO NCO for the white soldier who might find himself in trouble or with a problem. Both times I was selected for that role.
