Soldier’s remains coming home after 70 years as MIA

This past November we were notified By the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Office that the remains of my uncle Kenneth Walker were identified in Hawaii. Several years ago, I’d submitted a DNA sample along with two other cousins. I was asked by the DPAA if I was the oldest surviving member of the family. As far as I knew I was the second oldest with my cousin in Oklahoma being a few months older. Surprisingly, we found my uncle Tommy was still alive at age 85 but in very poor health. Two days before he died Tommy was told that Kenneth’s remains had been identified. I’m thankful Tommy finally knew what happened to his big brother.

Per DoD regulations, my cousin, being a bit older than me, was tasked by the Army to handle all the arrangements. She and her husband graciously agreed and have done a super job.

On Saturday, April 18 my uncle, Sgt Kenneth Walker, USA will be buried with full military honors in his hometown of Madill, Oklahoma. Graveside services are 2:00 PM Woodberry Forest Cemetery, Madill, Oklahoma.
