"Once upon a time a Georgian printed a couple of books that attracted notice, but immediately it turned out that he was little more than an amanuensis for the local blacks—that his works were really the products, not of white Georgia, but of black Georgia. Writing afterward as a white man, he swiftly subsided into the fifth rank." H L Mencken The Sahara of Bozart

I remember watching "Song of the South" as a small child in my West-Central Indiana hometown of about 15,000 (i.e., small) and enjoying it immensely. I marveled at the technology that framed animated and live characters together in the same scene and I enjoyed the up-beat and generally "joyful" music. It did not read any social commentary into it then and I would not see the need to do so now. In this and similar cases, I see political correctness as a form of censorship; this in a world where left-leaning activists go "on parade" dressed as their genitalia, tolerance demands we accept biological males into female bathrooms and numerous esteemed universities creating bans on the use of personal pronouns (he and she, in particular) in their official correspondence.
Am sure Disney's decision in this case is essentially a marketing one. Most things in our society comes down to the money, it seems. Long story short, I agree with you CPT Jack Durish, we need to tell our "stories" (and our "history") and feel free to do so without fear of backlash or "over-concern" about hurt feelings. Sometimes the truth hurts. Dampening the truth hurts more. Thanks for the post.

"Political correctness" is nothing more than an infringement on free speech. Sadly, it has morphed into an excuse for book burning with great works of literature such as Huckleberry Finn and To Kill a Mockingbird being relegated to the dust bins. It is clear that the cultural Nazis are at the door and they are Leftists and their brown shirts/goon squads are called "Antifa"
