My Russian professor at the USAFA had escaped the USSR as a teen, eventually becoming a US citizen and a Lt Col in the USAF. He was such an excellent advocate for a capitalist economy and democratic republic over the socialist alternative, because he had truly experienced both. Only those unfamiliar with the results of socialism, and unwilling to read History, still advocate for it. Especially if they think they'll be at the top of the "Party Member" status.
