I find it interesting that one of the early points they make in the article is that Northrup was already behind in the running because DoD was still pissed about the overruns in cost of the B-2. I think the circumstances have flipped as now the cost overruns on the Lockheed F-35 have put them in the doghouse with the number crunchers.

I recall when our fighters were in service for looooong periods of time, the F-4 Phantom, the F-14 Tomcat. Decades for so many incredible aircraft. The F-22 has been operational for, what, about 7 months!?! I'm being facetious, but it sure seems like that.

Black Widow is supposedly a better jet. However did not win in the cost and looks factor.
