So, we don't want to put them in jail, we don't want to fine them so what, we let them off with a stern reprimand? There is no fine to pay if you don't break the rules. No one ever seems to consider that possibility in this society. I've raised three kids, never got a fine for any of them for anything. It isn't really that hard. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time (or pay the fine).

While i do agree with some of your sentiments one should point out that inherently within the minority community there is single parents versus a dual parent or a strong role model. Fines like this inherently do Target the underprivileged or minority population. Instead of imposing fines or giving a slap-on-the-wrist have a nice day by forcing them to do community service you get them active within the community and hopefully get them to perpetuate a sense of responsibility and show them that there are other ways to do things.

I know of highly successful single parent families . Always an excuse for not being an upstanding citizen.

The system has the same or similar problem with poor people who cannot afford to pay fines for misdemeanors and are locked up for various times. Scofflaws who repeatedly violate noncriminal laws and ordinances are the biggest offenders. Driving without a DL or no insurance, speeding, etc. These same people cannot afford to pay bail to get them out prior to their court date. So they face a double whammy from the system. I always thought the system punished the parents of delinquent kids by locking up the parents, which doesn't really help anything either.

Try not paying your taxes, you will find that there is a debtors prison for some.

I think we all understand now that the politicians and elite are above the laws, they only apply to the "ordinary" folks and deplorables, somewhat redundant I realize.
