This makes sense to me. If one of the reasons someone commits suicide is that they somehow believe they have been a failure at life, then I would think that being married and having the feeling that you have failed your partner in some way could be a powerful force. Veterans often have a strong sense of taking care of others, especially loved ones, and when you feel that you have let them down that could be an additional feeling of guilt or failure that a single vet wouldn’t have.
