Calling the deer “suicidal,” of course, may be something of a misnomer. More likely, they just don’t know to be cautious around speeding vehicles with bright headlights. But whatever the reason, it’s certainly an issue in Paxton: 33 vehicle collisions with deer were reported in 2015, according to The Paxton Record.

On Fort Meade we sometimes have deer walking across the road, standing beside the road, etc. Most Fort Meade regulars know this and take special care when driving when deer are near the road. The deer seem to know they're safe as well, because they just kind of meander around. One time, several years ago, a deer ran into the commissary. A colleague of mine happened to be in the commissary and he said it was a wild scene. It took four men to "catch" the deer and take him outside.
