I admire you for those steps of action, and honestly I would like to know what you did. This is something that took a lot of courage.

PV2 Andrew Schauf- Anderson - all I did was listen to the persons story of what was happening, and the dark trail he was on, we then had a long talk about the positive things in their life, which out weighted the bad, light came on, darkness slowly went away.

While there were no shortage of people claiming this when I was in training, it is real. I think all of us have buried more friends from it than some people will ever have. It is real, it is killing us, and it fucking hurts. I work as a paramedic, and a large number of people in public safety are former military; consequently, we have a high rate of suicide. I just buried a partner last month. No warning, no indications, just fucking done. He was the third one this calendar year, the fifth brother in the last 12 months. I wish they would just pick up the God damn phone. If I can't talk you out of it, you can always go back to the original plan. Realistically though, I know that they are hurting so bad it never even crosses their mind.

I didn't think I'd see it in training but we had one guy on watch in addition to our Fire Guard and CQ during BCT, he ended up with an Un-characterized Discharge. Had another in AIT where I guy wanted to jump out of the 5th floor window of the barracks. Ended up in a meeting with three different Sergeants and him. He ended up graduating and now he seems to be doing well at his duty station.

I went through OSUT in 85, our 1SGT finally sat down the entire platoon, on the 6th week and stated if you want out, ask. Don't do anything to harm yourself for a ticket home.
After all these years later, we check-in with each other the 22nd of each month. We just need to stick together and talk about it.
