You bring us an interesting and valuable read but spoil it with your knee-jerk defense of Obama (totally irrelevant). California has long been a magnet for aliens with money. A large community of French built up in nearby Laguna Niguel when the socialists ascended in France and the taxes on the wealthy ascended. They proved the point that money is portable and moved out leaving France short of cash. Today, we have a large community of Chinese capitalists who have escaped Communist China. The Chinese government attempted to make their money less portable, but they got around that by purchasing homes in Irvine, CA at offices located in China. Most bought two or more homes, one to live in and the others as income properties. (Interestingly, members of this Chinese enclave have been attempting to block the veterans cemetery in Irvine Great Park because they fear their investment properties will lose value with dead veterans interred nearby)

We have similar "investors" in Miami and the same goes for New York City. On the other side of the coin, our criminals seem to prefer communist oppressive regimes like Castro's Cuba.

CPT Jack Durish Sadly, this is the reality. Anything adverse that occurs in our nation now, Obama is, will, and does get the blame. My killing the assertion off the bat not only removes the ability of anyone that would attempt to pin this issue on the current president, but might actually encourage those people to read this article and see that it's something much more systemic and widespread than one administration
