Taiwan's president pledges to defend island's sovereignty after Chinese military drills

DISCLAIMER: I normally don't use NPR as a "credible news & commentary source" but this article got me thinking. Taiwan has been and will be a source of much friction between China (CCP) and the USA. So read knowing there is a hidden agenda & biase.
BACKGROUND: China sees Taiwan as its own territory and threatens to annex it by force if necessary. A former Japanese colony, Taiwan has been governed independently from the mainland since 1949, when the Nationalist Party lost a civil war against the Chinese Communist Party and retreated to the island.
The United States is obligated by its own laws to provide Taiwan with the means to defend itself. Generally support of Taiwan by several US Presidential Administrations have "for the most part" has been strong. However, both the Obama and Biden Administrations have sent very mixed signals which have only embolden the CCP to become more aggressive in the region.
IN MY OPINION: Both Obama and Biden have created the conditions to destabilize the region which include Korea, Japan and the Philippines. All of these countries are key to US interests in containing the expansion of the CCP controlled China.
KEY TAKE AWAY AND CONCERN: China's leader Xi Jinping called Taiwan's eventual annexation " unstoppable " during his own televised New Year's address on Wednesday. This only ratcheted up regional tensions. If things continue, the minute China (CCP) sees an opportunity it will attack and a new World War will start.

Taiwan has lots of evidence to show what will happen if China takes over; I don't believe anyone on that island wants that and they will stand and fight...hopefully, we and others will support them.

While I dont trust anything reported on by NPR, I have no doubt Taiwan's president is telling the truth when he says he'll defend the country's sovereignty. He has to because I believe China will go scorched earth on him and the country.
