Really looking forward to the sequel...even though it makes zero sense LOL! However, this brings up an interesting "flight of fancy". I've long held the opinion that the armed forces should consider allowing long-retired or ETSed people a chance to "come back" a la Thomas Magnum in "Magnum P.I.", or Clint Eastwood in "Firefox". Think about it; some O-3 leaves the military and then spends twenty years learning a whole new set of skills, raising a family, revisiting past decisions. You bring him back, bump him up to say, O-5 or O-6, and hand him some "problem" no one else has been able to sort out. Maybe it's taking command of a ship that's continually failing inspections... or bringing back some "obsolete" aircraft whose analog systems baffle the younger experts. Maybe you drop some former E-5 whose been selling parts to Russian power plants for fifteen years into St. Petersburg to steal the combination to Putin's sock drawer... you know; that sort of thing. You give 'em the rank (but little actual authority), tailor their "refresher" training to suit their age, and link 'em up with their former peers who are now command sergeant majors, or generals. "Yeah, I remember that one time I hauled your drunk @$$ back from Subic COB." "Oh really? Well, remember that time I helped you sneak out of the Admiral's daughter's room... 'Captain'?"

Yeah, if they brought me back to fix a ship that can't pass an inspection, I would have to hard pass. It was hard enough to get them to pass when I was in... but a very interesting thought!

But how many times did he make LtCmdr, and how many times did he make Cmdr, and finally Captain? :D
