On 7 September every year I like to play 1812 Overture. Why 7 Sep you might ask? Tchaikovsky wrote the symphony to commemorate the the Battle of Borodino. On 7 September 1812 The Russians met Napoleon Bonaparte’s Grand Armee at the battle of Borodino. With 52,000 Russian and 28,000 French casualties, it was a staggering 80,000 killed or wounded in a single day making it the was the deadliest one-day battle in all of history. By comparison the bloodiest one-day battle in US history, the 17 Sept 1862 Battle of Antietam, resulted in 22,000 killed or wounded.
