Autonomous vehicles have to be able to deal with people doing crazy stuff. Even in situations which the law deems not to be the fault of the unmanned system, the developers of such systems should be striving to prevent failures (and killing people is a failure for an autonomous car) even when there might not be legal liability. 100% safety is almost certainly not achievable, but as close as can be gotten is the ethical goal.

SGT (Join to see) if the car drives legally. There is nothing left to say. If a person or kid steps in front of a car, then that person or the parents are responsible. Can a company make the cars even more safe? Sure, but I think they should do it because they feel like it. Not because they have to. After all, if the car is driving legally, I don't think there is anything else for the developers to do besides monitor for glitches and bugs in the system.

If a drunk homeless person commits or attempts to commit suicide in front of your car....for them it is a cheap way to commit suicide. It will shake you to the core when it happens to you. I feel bad for the drivers now.

SGT (Join to see) - If they run into a car, kids or disabled...and there was no way for the driver to avoid them....were not they in the wrong? When I was a kid, I learned to look both ways and do not get in front of driving cars. My continue breathing shows I learned that lesson.

It is too bad that we would slow technological advances because of one Darwin Award Candidate! SMH.
