SFC Chad Sowash Can't resist commenting on a couple of these signs which I have had personal experience with. The 'No Reference Policy' is good business for the company and the employee. Employers try to avoid any and all liability which might result from a supervisor telling someone you are a no-good slacker and he would never rehire you, even if it was true. You don't want to get a negative or lukewarm reference from your old employer either. Get a positive reference from your old employer and offer to provide it if possible. "Progressive Discipline" is a good thing for the company and you. Imagine the Army if every supervisor was empowered to discipline you in any way they saw fit for whatever infraction? Stay away from any company big or small that does not have a documented progressive discipline program, union or non-union, management or non-management. "Formal Performance Management' is a good thing for the company and the employee. Imagine if your supervisor could evaluate you anyway s/he felt like it based on their own personal evaluation criteria?

Hey Tom, thanks for the feedback. I think the 'No Ref Policy' is good from a risk mitigation standpoint and understand not all managers and/or employees were created equal - although I believe it's important to allow transparency in some occasions. For instance - a company could have a policy which only allows positive comments - anything negative reverts back to the "they were employed here from-to and help this position"... What I'm trying to say is there can be better ways... Overall thanks for your feedback and I really appreciate response.
