My two cents, Journalistic standards have been on a slow decline since the publication of the Pentagon Papers and Watergate. Those two events changed news gathering from objective to confrontational. Opinionated cable TV channels has made the race for the gutter worse between news organizations for better ratings (and with those go higher advertising rates). Only way to fix this is to make or find a way for TV to become far less dependent on advertising and much more dependent on quality of the content or reporting. I am not sure how we shift it from one to the other but the shift needs to happen. In my opinion.

That is actually one of the points the author made - every new journalist wants to make themselves famous by taking down another high-profile Republican.
The way to shift it is for viewers to reward quality reporting (when and if it can be found) by watching/subscribing/sharing. Of course, those that follow the Statist view will be doing the same, but then again, they always have.

Please don't dismiss this without reading simply because of the source. It is a very well written and thought out piece that ends with a very important question: "Can the American [news] media be fixed?" As the author correctly observes "The 2016 election was the media's Humpty Dumpty moment. It fell off the wall, shattered into a million pieces, and can't be put back together again." Still there is hope. It will take decades for the...
