I was at a pistol range on Camp Lejeune one time when a young Marine brought his girlfriend, who had never been to a range or handled a gun before. He got her set up with a revolver with a 6" barrel, which she held to the center of her body pointing downrange. Then she turned around 180 degrees, still holding the revolver the same way, and said "Now what?" I freaked out. Then I spent the next couple of hours coaching them on range etiquette, gun safety, and marksmanship. All in all, a productive day, but man my heart jumped.

SSgt Christopher Brose Sounds like a great "mentorship moment" you provided to that young Marine and his Significant Other. Kudos!
Looking at the business end of a weapon definitely gets me pumping. Hell, people I don't know holding them gets me pumping, hearing them fired without knowing exactly where they're aimed.... You know what? Life threatening things trigger a flight or fight reflex in me is what I think I'm trying to say.

The first time I took my wife to the range..she had said "I shot a rifle once with my Dad". After coaching her on the basics, I put her behind a scoped AR and she locked and loaded and promptly shot a 10 round group at 100yds about the size of a quarter. Everyone should be such a #luckyhusband

I had a similar experience with my wife. We met in our mid 40s so we missed all the growing experiences together. After being married about 10 years I bought a pair of new single action army revolvers for cowboys shooting and I finally talked her into going to the range with me to shoot them. I fired off 5 rounds in the first one. She picked up the second one and put 5 rounds inside the black at 20 yards. I was truly amazed, I did not know she could shoot so well and I told her so. She said something like, "I grew up shooting all the time, I just haven't been interested is shooting much lately." Man, I was so proud, I told that story a hundred times in the next couple months. She's a regular Annie Oakley and I didn't even know it.
