Just remember that the temperature rating for the sleeping bags shows a SURVIVAL temperature, not a comfort-level temperature. I had a few buddies discovered that when backpacking for the first time at high elevations. They didn't think about the true meaning of the temperature rating.

we all know those green blankets with U.S. on them, they are great to insulate that sleeping pad/mat or cot.

I just corrected my post from "Just remember that the temperature rating for backpacks..." to Just remember that the temperature rating for the sleeping bags...". Duh.

Sgt Bruce C. - For car camping, yes, but for backpacking they are way too heavy.

My left-brain: Don't look, don't look! You have six backpacks!
My right-brain: For crying out loud, your Newest Osprey is already two years old! It's ancient and will fall apart on the next backpacking trip. Definitely. It's not a want, it's a need.

North Face one sounds interesting. Still using my almost 20 year old North Face.

Up until maybe a decade ago, I was still using a military issue extreme cold weather mummy bag. Wasn't issued to me, I found it at a surplus store. Still have it as a "back-up".

SSG William Jones - Those are nice but I've found they are too heavy and consume too much volume in my pack. I dug deep in my pockets and picked up an Enlightened Equipment 20 deg Revelation quilt last year. I love that thing.

Roger. I've had a modern bag for probably 8-10 years now. It's stored in my "Fall/Winter Season" gear box, so I can't recall the make but it's a high-end bag and not a mummy style. I can move my legs freely!!!
