M-1 Grand is a good shooter, no matter how old it is, we still have M-1 Grand's from WWII at the Guam police department, and use it for running the colors and twenty-one gun salutes.
Just for laughs, during police week, one of the color guards during the twenty-one gun salute, shot and cut a power line, you should have seen all the police officer run for cover, and there was a whole lot of sparks with the power line touching the ground.
After all the excitement, I went up to the officer and told him he did a good job, and ended the boring ceremony early. Lol
"By the way, our M-1 grands are 30.6 cal."

Interesting deal on the Garand saga.
I have been on the CMP email list for a long time and belong to a shooting club that is accepted by the CMP as an affiliated club. So I've been following the 1911 deal since it started. I'm disappointed that the price of a worn out 1911 is as high as they have posted. If you really want a piece of history then I guess it is worth it. Otherwise take $1,000 and get a nice new pistol.

I debated getting a M1911 from CMP but like you said , high prices. Still hate paying that almost new price.

CW5 Jack Cardwell - Me to. I guess that was my point. For a collector with a "must have" it is OK but you can get a fairly decent NEW 1911 for about the same coin. I'd love to get one but my money is better spent elsewhere.
