It is amazing the pilots survived their first battles. The pilots were World War Two veterans who were secretly recruited and trained to help Israel defend itself from the Arab nations once they declared their Independence. The documentary “Above and Beyond: The Birth of the Israeli Air Force” has been produced to tell the story.

He did go to Israel to help train the Army.
