I obviously like this story a lot. And it was definitely high tech, high drama and high valor.
There is a scene in the movie where Barnes Wallis gets an interview at the Air Ministry. He has a bomb design. He needs access to a Wellington twin engine bomber to begin testing prototypes.
The admin drone is not impressed. Sitting behind his desk he says,”What makes you think that the RAF would loan you a Wellington Bomber?”
“Well, I did design it,” Wallis rejoins.

Star Wars trivia. When George Lucas returned to Hollywood after months of filming in Britain and Algeria, he found to his dismay that Industrial Light and Magic had used ¼ of its budget but had nothing usable in the can. He actually went to the ER with chest pains. He made a montage of film, including the ‘Dam Busters’, ‘Dawn patrol’, ‘Hells Angels’ and others, to show the tech guys what he wanted.

Col Joseph Lenertz - I can honestly say that the first time I saw "The Dambusters" and the one guy said, "How many guns to do you think, Trevor?" I immediately thought of the line: "How many guns do you think, Gold Five?"
And in SW the squadrons are Red and Gold for the USC Trojans. I don't get that at all. Orange and White are much better colors.

Capt Walter Miller - LOL, yes much better. My kids are UVA, so they'd say Orange and Blue though.

One of the little mini-scandals in the war is that the Lancaster bomber was very difficult to escape from. Since it was designed to carry torpedoes internally, movement fore and aft (that is nautical talk) in the aircraft was extremely difficult in flying gear. And they also found that increasing the size of the hatches just by a few inches could have saved many lives, again of crew in bulky flying gear. But it was deemed too detrimental to the production schedule to implement the changes so Brit air crew got the same sort of shrift their fathers got at Passchendaele, the Somme and Gallipoli.
