Our fighters don't die from disease like they used too. One thing that has been improved in warfighting.

LTC Bill Koski That is very true; however, one deadly mutation could result in a similar occurrence. We have more medical technology than any other nation. We have the ability to care for patients who have diseases like Ebola. What is frightening are diseases like MERSA and others that have developed a resistance to our antibiotics.

SGT (Join to see) you are right about the mutations and MRSA. Our reliance and overuse of antibiotics have contributed to the mutations already. We can only speculate what life will have in store for humans 100, etc., years in the future. We've grown taller because of nutrition, yet at the same time, our wonder drug is producing superb us like the antibiotic resistant MRSA.

Against flu unless we have lead time we have few more defenses than we did in 1918m Against bacteria we can do well but other than immunization we are still prettify helpless against viruses.

I have had the flu exactly once in my life, 3 days after the only flu shot ive ever had lol. No more flu shots no more flu. My cousin when she was still a baby was diagnosed with h flu menengitis. I have been babysitting her for like the last 2 weeks and I remember what a big deal it made out of it I had to go to the medical center roughly right before they opened brought us into a room away from everybody, doctor came and check us out kept us there until after the place is closed and then let us out the back door. And that is the only time I left I've ever even heard of H flu so I'm not even sure what it is other than apparently it's something really contagious and nasty and I'm very grateful and very blessed that I did not contract it from her.

Just so you know, live flu vaccine was discontinued decades ago, it is impossible for it to give you the flu. Nasal mist yes, it is live, vaccinations no. As with pneumonia, it's an educated guess what strain will pop up, ergo the 50% chance of catching it. Pneumonia PREVNAR 13 means protection against 13 known variations of pneumonia, not all. Most use these excuses for not getting inoculated and places many at risk due to fear of the needle.

Flu still kills 35-40,00 per year.

That is a lot of people. My dad got Legionaires disease in Las Vegas. If I hadn't forced him to go to the hosoital, it could have turned out very badly. He was in the hospital for about a week. That is a terrible form of pneumonia and has been known to cause death. The amount of drugs that were given to him was incredible.

Went through the same thing with my wife and we both get flu and pneumonia shots. But, we all know that's a crap shoot.

SGT (Join to see) I have yet to die from the Flu, there have been times when I wished I would! Mine lasts for 6 - 8 weeks! The weight I lose, sorely needed, soon returns!

CDC

Inactivated and recombinant flu vaccines
A dose of flu vaccine is recommended every flu season. Children 6 months through 8 years of age may need two doses during the same flu season. Everyone else needs only one dose each flu season.

Some inactivated flu vaccines contain a very small amount of a mercury-based preservative called thimerosal. Studies have not shown thimerosal in vaccines to be harmful, but flu vaccines that do not contain thimerosal are available.

There is no live flu virus in flu shots. They cannot cause the flu.
