Yeah,,,I know for a fact, that if someone were to call my home, or even ask anyone of my household on the street, they would get the same answer: "No guns around here!" That goes for most, if not all of my family and friends. We've been called "Clannish" in my neck of the woods and absolutely dislike anyone asking about our firearms. I would bet my next paycheck, those numbers are WAY off.

Which way does this piece lean? Is it anti-gun or pro-gun or neutral? Curious for your views on that.

LCpl Arthur Forbes Absolutely! I have raised 2 children and now grand Children around firearms. Both my Son and Grand daughter were hunting with me at 2 yrs old, they did not have a firearm, but understood they were hands off. by the age of 4, they both knew how to shoot, safely unload and safely check any firearm they may have contact with in the home. My Step Daughter did not come in to my life until she was 13, I immediately started teaching her about firearms safety. In my family, you have to be aware of firearms. She now is one hell of a marksman and one of the safest people I know with firearms.

SGT Chris Wagoner I really don't know which way it wanted to lean. But, I think it could be used either way. For me, if you don't include the overall, skewed result of ownership, it does a pretty good job of breaking down the demographics of those that actually answered yes to ownership. On the anti-gun side, one could argue that because there is only about 1 third of the population that owns firearms, why are they holding the other 2 thirds hostage? If I had to guess, and that is what it would be, if you take away the population centers, just interview and get a truthful answer, from the rural areas, the numbers would show over 75% own firearms. Again, that is a SWAG.

Without knowing how they gathered the data, the article is suspect at best.
If they cold called asking respondents "Do you own a gun?" "If so, what type and how many?"
the data is useless as many will not answer something like that over the phone, door to door, at the mall entrance, to an unknown person or group.
A more likely response is to say "I don't own a gun " and hang up, walk by, ignore the question all together.
Likewise if they went to a gun show and asked the same questions the data is skewed.
Went to the local DNC HQ and asked all in the building.
Went to the local meeting of MDA and asked the same questions...

SGM Erik Marquez - What it all comes down to is GIGO (Garbage In Garbage Out). ALL surveys are no better than the accuracy of the responses given by those polled.
In this case, I see good reason to expect false statements by gun owners denying their ownership to a stranger asking such a question over the phone.
I can accept such "gun ownership rates" as absolute minimal.

SGM Erik Marquez - BTW There was a ~2% refusal to respond (unlabeled) reported. Do you think that refusal came from gun-owners or non-owners?

CW3 Harvey K. - Good question, and I don't know.
I would guess it is a mix of both, with weight going to the suspicious gun owner

Interesting report. I would have expected the ownership in rural areas to have been much higher though.
