The article is a decent introduction for civilians but their terminology is wrong. There is Special Forces, the name only applies to the US Army Special Forces groups (Green Berets) and then there is Special Operations Forces (SOF). SOF can be any number of folks assigned to the individual Special Operations Commands of the Army, Air Force, Marines, and Navy. The term “special operators” is a generic term that could apply to various folks including special forces.

There are also far more SOF units in the military then mentioned in the article.
