I am concerned that "...It's not your code on GitHub that counts; it's what other people say on GitHub about your code that counts. GitHub is your portable reputation, and over the next 12 to 24 months, as some developers develop that and others don't, it's going to be a stark differentiator." In other words, if people/groups slam your contributions, you have just lost whatever cachet/reputation you so painstakingly built. And then you are finished. My other concern is that there will always be someone looking to monetize an arrangement like GitHub. No one works for free unless it's in the Star Trek Universe...

That's an interesting way to look at it because your homepage is mostly blips of shades of green showing your activity, but people can easily check in those individual contributions for details. I provide issues at times but those usually result in conversation there or in IRC.

The monetizing thing is always true.
