Nathan's decisive battle is not near as important as the other aspects of his work. The importance of a strong navy to defend our shores and secure open sea lanes for free trade and strategic force projection remains salient today.

Also there movie Glory and the Fort Sumpter charge with, IIRC, Naval support.
