I love this story. Never tire of it. It's a story oft told of government failure while private entrepreneurs succeed. When oh when will We the People learn? Stop expecting government to solve our problems for us. Get them the hell out of the way and let America succeed. And if you need a more current example, think of how often NASA was able to reuse the expensive first stage of rockets when launching payloads into space. Don't strain yourselves. There were none. Space X accomplished that one and will make such launches far more economical, commercially viable. If President Trump does not else than get government out of our hair, he will be well remembered

One other private enterprise success he failed to mention is mapping the human gnome. Government supported scientist screwed around and figured it would take years. Venter of Gentec did it in 4 few years and at 1/5 the cost. One of the problems with the airplane was the tables of lift vs curvature were wrong. The German scientist that calculated them was wrong. The Wright brothers discovered this and made an ingenuous device . It was a bicycle wheel turned horizontal. On one side was a plate that provided a known resistance at a given speed. They used this device mounted on the front of a bicycle to figure the proper curvature of the wing. Great story. Thanks for posting. http://www.nature.com/articles/30057

and then allowed Curtis to patten it... and the pattens held the progression... and the Germans and other Foreign nations ignored the pattens and beat US to the domination in the sky till the 1940's
