I was always one of those guys that needed the keys to get under the hood. Guess that is why I have an iPad that is rarely used, a MS Surface Book, Android phone, Android watch, Hue lights, Nest thermostat, Wemo switches, Rachio water controller, Alexa, and the list goes on. My focus switched from hardware to software about a decade ago - with the advent of smart phones. My focus now is on cloud enabled devices, securing my own data in the cloud and the future of intelligent AI based secretaries. I want to see the death of the web spider as the main way for search engines to stay up to date. I want push technology that responds to my voice.
As one of those guys I am both in the new iPhone 7 approach as well as the "I need to make it my own hardware-wise" camps. I see both sides. I want both sides to win. In the end, it will be far beyond either of these things. :)
