The Paris Agreement, I believe, is a non binding "agreement". It carries no force of law behind it (it is not a law or a treaty passed by Congress).

From the article: Slovakian Environment Minister Laszlo Solymos, whose country holds the rotating EU presidency, says "it's not easy to jump off a fast moving train. If someone wants to deviate, it won't be easy."

It is easy to jump off a moving train if you know it is going to fall off a bridge that is no longer there. This is what they like to do is try to force you to stay engaged. I hope we walk away from this pretty cleanly.

While I believe strongly in getting us off fossil fuels and onto cleaner, safer renewable energy I think that global warming is not the primary reason we should. It's pot science that is a lot of theory and doesn't take into account the earths natural heating and cooling cycles.
Fossil fuels do pollute our environment and put the non oil producing countries at the mercy of those that do produce it. Forty or so years ago OPEC played havoc with the US's economy with their Embargo. While we have weaned ourselves off of Middle Eastern Oil, many of our Allies haven't.
Petro-Dollars fill the coffers of many Countries that harbor militant Islam and Anti-Western Culture. The less they get from us and our allies, the better.
