As I'd said when I'd sent it in before, look up Cher Ami, the story of the pigeon that stopped the unit from fratricide by their own artillery, the bird is now in a museum, possibly the Smithsonian, though I'm uncertain, and the tragic story later on of Lt Col Charles Whittlesey, he unit commander, there's a Wikipedia page about him as well, I think there's also one about the bird, I can't quite recall at the moment, however, enjoy.

An excellent film, I show part of it to my history classes.
And Cher Ami, they did not find out she was a hen until her death [sexing pigeons is not easy]
The 77th ID had one more pigeon hero, just as wounded as C A "The Mocker" whose message led to 3x German 155mm batteries being taken out during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive.
The efforts of pigeons in the Great War & WW2 is simply amazing. Look up GI Joe, William of Orange [my favorite, a paratrooper pigeon during Market garden], Winkie, Mary of Essex & so many more that were only numbers. Bird in photo saved the lives of several hundred USMC in the South Pacific, an Australian bird, awarded the Dicken Medal "the Victoria Cross of Animals" ...over 30 pigeons & now over 30 dogs
