The article says that new M4A1's are being delivered to units. My son's unit still has M16A2's. They can't even mount the optics they have been issued.

The M4 was ideal for our heavy equipment operators so at least for the Combat Heavy Construction outfits why mess with success.
What do we really gain by changing weapons that are combat proven. The new pistol is still a 9mm, just a different manufacturer and it looks cooler than the M9.

CSM, I agree...one of the reasons the original competition was started (over 10 years ago) was to replace the 9mm. It has been proven to bounce off of windshields and since all we issue to troops downrange (minus SF) is ball ammo, it is not exactly a manstopper. The new Sig is highly modular but that requires us to buy more parts (see what Sig did there). It is also a "wet" gun, just like the Beretta, in that it likes to be clean and well lubricated to function well. However, that horse has now left the barn so we turn to the M4 debate...
