The Marines Corps' Next Combat Boot May Specialize in Jungle Warfare

While I do not buy into Robert McNamara's Vietnam era idea that all the services wear the same field uniform (the Army's just phased out gray cammies?), I just recently read articles about the Army testing a new prototype jungle boot in the same Hawaiian terrain. Seems to me grunt feet are the same in all services. This duplication doesn't make sense to me. IMHO.

MSgt George Cater I think the civilian population underestimates the importance of getting this one simple piece of equipment right! With certain exceptions, no one spends as much time in boots as the military and the environment/conditions coupled with the diversity of activities required by the military make this an absolutely essential item to get right!

Let all recruits in the different branches of the military test them out. They'll be as tough on them as a service member.

That I totally agree on. I guess Gen Neller doesn't trust the DOD development process and the Army would never adopt a Marine developed item.
