Argh, we're not supposed to talk about this, but between us vets and servicemembers, I would say that training with live animals is far superior to computer simulators.

I wont go into the details much however, when you provide treatment to a casualty there is an emotional response experienced. The training we conduct before combat should prepare you to defeat that response and execute with proper muscle memory and sound judgement. I do not believe simulations have been able to illicit that emotional response just yet.

That was what I was wondering. Similar to flying a sim. An engine fire in a sim is an interesting exercise. Your first engine fire in the air gets your attention and affects your heart rate and judgment and thinking process in ways that the sim cannot deliver.

Not a medic, but I support the "live animal" training. Simulators are all right for some phases of training, this is the culmination of all training.
