I was once on a super tanker in the Bering Sea during a 100 year storm. We were loaded (thank God), so came in at around 300k deadweight tons. Roughly 3 times the size of a carrier. And we were being tossed around like a twig. During the descent into one trough, the oncoming wave broke on deck and bent a 3 FOOT thick steel pole (a cargo boom) something like 30 degrees. No one respects Mother Nature like Sailors do.
