I'm pretty doubtful about the usefulness of the idea. Quite obviously, the weapon isn't functional unless it unfolded, which limits the usefulness of this device to storage. And storage isn't where the length of the M16/M4 is a problem.

I definitely agree with you on this. It seems like a solution for a problem that isn't there.

Personally I think the folding stock is a much better idea; at least you can still shoot it while it's folded.

That's actually the problem with the M16 family of weapons. Because of the buffer tube, the can't have a folding stock. That's why the M4 has a collapsible stock.

It might just be me MSgt. But, I think the weapon was cool. I do not like target practice that is not training for using the weapon for real. Plus, if I have my weapon out, I do not want it folded.
Is that how that fellow is going to use the weapon in a fight?
I am not really being harsh. It just seems that way with black and white writing.

I think it's useful for airborne or any other small stowage space. Like the Smart Car we had for two years. It is a lot faster than reassembling your M-1 on the drop zone like the 82d & 101st did in WW2.
Backpackers can carry a full sized carbine in their pack, etc, etc.
The CA legislature is no doubt already drafting a law to outlaw it.
