That's how it was. Women couldn't get BAH with dependents until the 1970s.
For a long time if a woman married, she had to leave the service

That's worse than the telephone company back in the day (Bell Tel). The operators not only had a strict dress-code and other restrictions on things like weight, speech, smiling and marriage but that's nothing compared to being a POW, particularly a female POW. Her sisters in the PTO were in a living hell.
