On April 26, 1478, Pazzi conspirators attacked Lorenzo de'Medici and killed Giuliano de'Medici in Florence. A short excerpt from the article:
"The scholar and the prince ran to the cathedral’s sacristy; there, they locked themselves in, shielded behind the heavy, ornate bronze doors and accompanied by a handful of faithful followers. The prince’s neck was cut and bleeding, but he was safe. Outside, his brother’s lifeless body, with blood pooling around it, lay on the hard, polished-marble floor of the church. How long they waited inside is unknown, but soon there came a pounding on the huge metal doors."
